Selection Messrs Irvine, Reid, Drummond,Gairns, Colman, Bremner, Laing (Conv)
Ref & Rough Play Messrs Laing (Convener), Irvine, Morrison, Ogg, Drummond, Young and Reid.
Ken Drummond was still the manager and along with Ronnie McClelland they had come back from the SFA Training School at Largs, full of new coaching ideas and methods. Ken in particular was very keen to use the German system of coaching. That was in boxes with players playing 1 against 2, 1 against 3, 2 against 3 and so on. Bill Hebner also was now very much involved in the signing of players and acting as trainer. He also played a contributing role in the training sessions, bearing in mind that we now had an under 18team ( City Boys ) and we were actively recruiting players for our new under 16 team ( Minors)
Friday, 14th, August, 1964 V Scone Thistle ( League-Home )
Letham should pick up two easy points.
Newcomers Scone again picked up two points by the odd goal over Letham. This was a real turn up. Letham had all the play but just could not get the ball in the net. Fifteen minutes from time, the visitors got the all-important goal.

Tuesday, 18th, August, 1964 V Pitfour ( League – Home )
Letham 2 Pitfour 2
Saturday, 22nd, August, 1964 v Scone Thistle ( League- Away )
Letham get a great chance for early revenge at Scone and they look capable of doing so.
Newcomers Scone are holding their own. They took another point off Letham on Saturday to make it three points out of four against the Perth lads.
Tuesday, 25th, August, 1964 V Coupar Angus ( League _ Away )
Letham picked up both points at Foxhall Park but were greatly assisted by the home forwards who failed badly in front of goal.
Friday, 28th, August, 1964 V Royal United ( League – Home )
Royals hit Letham to lead 3-0 at half time. The second half was more even with both sides getting one apiece. Thompson of Royals was booked.
Tuesday, 1st, September, 1964 V RN Anchorage ( League Home )
Letham 0 RN Anchorage 2
RN hit tip tap Letham and deservedly got the points. Letham have only themselves to blame. They played grand football up to the 18-yard line but there it finished

Saturday, 5th, September,1964 V Roselea ( 1st, Rd. Brotherhood Cup – Away )
Roselea 8 Letham 3
We did not like this defeat one little bit. Ian Marnoch, who was a big gentle giant, was back playing with Roselea having failed to make an impression with Letham. This helped to bring in needle between the two teams. Tommy McGregor one of our first ever signings back in 1961 was also a leading committee member for Roselea. They were however a very good team whom to coin a phrase simply got “stuck into” our young players.
Saturday, 12th, September, 1964 V St Johns YC ( League- Home )
Letham 5 St Johns YC 2
Letham went to town against St Johns YC and on this form can look forward with confidence to the return meeting in this week’s cup-tie.
Moir of Letham is attracting the attention of Newburgh Juniors. We had played Newburgh in a friendly and this was the result of Peter Reid the Association secretary putting two and two together and making five.
Saturday, 19th, September, 1964 V St Johns YC ( 1st Rd. Lindsay Cup- Away )
On present form Letham should make it to the next round
St Johns YC 1 Letham 3
Letham repeated last weeks fine win over St Johns, who seems to have lost their early form.
Saturday, 26th, September, 1964 V Roselea ( League-Home )
Letham have a hot handful in Roselea and the forecast here is a good draw.
Letham 4 Roselea 7
Letham were under strength but still played good football. Roselea, however stood on no ceremony and finished easy winners.
Kenny Marshall played for St Johnstone reserves against Raith Rovers. Quote “ playing at inside-right showed that he could pass the ball well. Sandy McRorie was also playing in this match.

Saturday, 10th, October, 1964 V Scone Thistle ( 1st. Rd. Scottish Cup- Home )
Scone Thistle visits the South Inch with confidence. They have had the better of the matters with the Juveniles this season and will make Crockart and his boys sit up. This may require a replay.
Letham 2 Scone Thistle 2
Letham were just a trifle lucky to get a replay against Thistle, who led 2-0 at one stage.
Saturday, 17th, October, 1964 V Scone Thistle ( 1st Rd Replay, Scottish Cup-away )
The only cup game of the day is at Scone, where Letham and the Thistle replay their Scottish Tie. The home side has had the best of the matters in their last three meetings and on the strength of this should make the second round quite easily.

Saturday, 24th, October, 1964 V Caputh United ( League- Home )
Letham look far too strong for the struggling Caputh side.
Team- Duncan, McClelland, Clement, Brown, Crichton, Moir, Binnie, Zeiba, Muckersie, Hill and Campbell
Letham 3 Caputh United 3
Caputh were unlucky not to get both points against Letham, who only got on level terms shortly before the end. The Letham boys have struck rock bottom form for just too long now and something drastic will have to be done.
This was not a good result and Ken following consultations with Bill and Ronnie did a major rethink of the formation of the team. Dusty Moir was moved to left-half, John Binnie was moved on to the right wing and Ally Campbell on to the left wing. Oh how we were missing Bill Hebner in defence and we came to the conclusion that the bulk of our players whilst excellent were still too young for this grade of football. Not only that apart from Sandy Crockart, Ron McClelland and Bob Muckersie we had practically a brand new team and it needed time to gel.
We also became aware that the Letham reputation for good football meant that teams raised their games against us and we became like Rangers or Celtic in the Scottish League in that all our opponents wanted to beat us. We did not help the situation however by our arrogance which was instilled in all our players from day one. Such as, you must be a good player as you are signed by LETHAM Juveniles.

Out of form Pitfour have the attractive Letham as visitors and must return to their former all out play to break this bad run. They will not find the Juveniles easy meat but they should get the verdict.
Pitfour 0 Letham 3
Letham were visitors to Glencarse and had the home side (minus sharp shooter Andy Laing) back on their heels most of the game and finished good winners.
Saturday, 28th, November, 1964 V PYC ( League-away)
The visitors should come out on top.
PYC 2 Letham 8
As forecast the visitors brought off a win.
An under 18 select team was chosen to play Fifeshire at CentralPark, Cowdenbeath on Saturday, 5th, December, 1964.
Barclay- Letham, Reid-Roselea and Clement-Letham, Anton-Scone Thistle, N Laing-Pitfour and Moir- Capt. Letham, Littlejohn-Roselea, Binnie-Letham, Stirton-Co. Angus, Hill-Letham and Hunter-St Johns YC
Reserves to travel= Todd-Co Angus, Lennon-Royal Utd and Gourlay-Pitfour
The team were to play in the Letham colours
Fifeshire 2 Perthshire 8
Moir played a real captains game and was the star of the 22. In the forward line top marks went to Littlejohn, Binnie and Stirton. Scorers- Stirton-4. Littlejohn- 2 ( 1 penalty), Binnie and Hill.
All selectors and spectators rose to a brilliant goal by John Binnie of Letham. Getting the ball just on the centre spot he beat five players then rounded the keeper and placed the ball in the back of the net.

There should be plenty of good football when Royals and Letham face up to each other. The result could go either way but I have a sneaking fancy for The Tangerines.
Royal United 0 Letham 3
Letham had a great win over Royals. Binnie was the star player.

Saturday, 26th, December, 1964 V Letham Rovers ( League-Home)
The game of the day looks to be the meeting of the two Letham clubs on the South Inch. Rovers lead the table on goal average and have not tasted defeat in the last six games. The Juveniles are also sitting pretty and are a grand football side. Their defence will be fully tested by a hard hitting forward line which on present form could make quite a splash this season. A forecast will be hard for ground advantage will not hinder the visitors. I take this game to be a good draw.

Letham had an easy passage against a poor Crieff side.
Saturday, 16th, January,1965 V St Johns ( 1st. Rd. Gillie Cup-Home )

Letham at one time leading 3-0 were lucky to get a replay against St Johns whose left-winger hit the bar a few minutes from time.
Saturday, 23rd, January, 1965 V Coupar Angus ( 2nd. Rd. Bissett & Stewart- Home )
Letham entertain Co. Angus and this should be another grand tie. Kenny Drummond’s boys will have to show better form than last week if they are to stop the visitors, who are fresh from a great win over Roselea. There will be plenty of good football from both sides, but Coupar Angus look to have just that little bit more experience to carry them through.
Letham 2 Coupar Angus 1
Letham Juveniles surprised Co. Angus by the odd goal. Still the home side could with more care have added to their total, but their shooting was bad. The result was in doubt until the final whistle.
Saturday, 30th, January, 1965 V St. Johns ( 1st. Rd. Replay, Gillie Cup—Away )
The replay on the North Inch should be a real hard tussle. Both teams had great wins last week and they appear to be on form. It would be no surprise if they required another replay.
St Johns 1 Letham 1
The replay on the North Inch was a great tussle and they again finished level. The second replay should certainly be a grand encounter.
Best of luck to Littlejohn-Roselea, Hunter-St. Johns and Hill-Letham who play for Scottish Juveniles in a 1st. round replay against Scottish Amateurs at Coatbridge. The first game ended 4-4.

Saturday, 13th, February, 1965 V St. Johns ( 1st. Rd 2nd. Replay Gillie Cup- Away )
The second replay on pitch 10 looks to be the game of the day. In the two earlier encounters there was nothing between the teams. Saints went under last week while the Juveniles just got through against PYC. There should be plenty of good football for the spectators with the Juveniles just showing in front.
St Johns 3 Letham 2
Well played the Saints to get through at the third time of asking and they deserved this win, as their defence never gave in. Their star without doubt was goalkeeper McDonald who had a great day. He broke the hearts of the Letham boys by bringing off some wonderful saves. The Juveniles have themselves to blame for not taking it to extra time. They missed some great chances and their tip tap stuff was no good against this stuffy Saints defence.
Wednesday, 17th, February, 1965
A photograph appeared in the PA showing the whole club. Back row was the Juveniles, Middle row was our City Boy team and in the front was our Minor team who are in our first strip of claret and sky blue sleeves. This photograph was taken outside our clubrooms at 64, Victoria Street, Perth.
In the photograph playing for the Juveniles was left to right back row: - ??? ( Assistant to Ally McAdam-he worked at Moncrieffe Glass ) Ally McAdam- Manager of the City Boys, Harry Petrie, Johnny McErlain, Tom Clement, Kenny Hill, Dennis Crichton ( he was also the secretary ), Ron McClelland, Dusty Moir, Kenny Barclay-Goalkeeper, Bob Muckersie who was not stripped for this game, Marek Zieba, John Paterson, Ally Campbell, John Binnie, Bill Hebner ( management) and Kenny Drummond ( manager ).
Wednesday, 17th, February, 1965
Letham granted a free day to play Newburgh juniors to-night under the Fife’s club training lights. Bob Keir ( committee member of Newburgh ) who worked for well-known ironmongers Garvie & Syme arranged this. Obvious they wanted some of our outstanding players.
Thursday, 18th, February, 1965
Bill Hebner and Ken Drummond had an evening meeting in the Salutation Hotel, Perth with the Chief Scout of Hibernian FC. Arrangements were made for Dusty Moir and John Binnie to go to Easter Road, Edinburgh and play a trial. We were of the opinion this was a good move and opportunity for the boys especially as Jock Stein was the manager. Not only that but they would be away from the gaze and microscope of Perth people if they had joined St. Johnstone.
Saturday, 20th, February, 1965 V Vale of Earn ( League-Away )
The Juveniles travel to Crieff and should get both points.
Vale of Earn 3 Letham 5
Hard luck Vale of earn, down 3-0 at half-time they fought back to get on level terms and then lost two
goals, which were deflected by their own keeper.
Saturday, 27th, February, 1965 (free day )
Left half Moir and outside or inside forward Binnie of Letham Juveniles are due to play for Hibs reserves this afternoon.
Monday, 1st, March, 1965
Ken Drummond joins the Shell Distributor ( CSC) in Feus Road. This was a career move and would have in time an impact on his available time he could give to the club. This was on top of his part time business of being a Main Collector of Littlewood’s Pools. He was involved in developing a football coupon collector service, which was at that time in its infancy.
Tuesday, 2nd, March, 1965
John Binnie, Dusty Moir, Bill, Ken and John’s father go to Easter Road and meet the legendry Jock Stein . He is charming, shows us round and takes us down to the playing surface and arranges for the floodlights to be switched on. He outlines on how keen he was for our two young stars to join Hibernian. A further meeting was to be arranged. Imagine the consternation when on the Tuesday, 9th, March it is announced that Jock Stein had that day become manager of Glasgow Celtic. The decision for Dusty and John was now wait until the new Hibernian manager had been installed.

Saturday, 6th, March, 1965 V Roselea ( 2nd. Rd. Cunningham Cup- Home )
The Juveniles meet Roselea and this will be a great tussle. The home sides tip tap tactics wont pay against the ‘Lea who are full of running and not afraid to have a go at goal.Any slip by the home defence will be punished. Providing both sides play their usual tactics, I take a chance on ‘Lea getting home.

The meeting of Royals and the Juveniles should see plenty of good classy football, which both sides can set up. It is hard to forecast this type of game as anything can happen. The Royals play more direct football and the Juvenile’s defence could have an uneasy afternoon. Providing the Royals get the breaks they could get the points.
Royal United 0 Letham 3
Royals had to make last minute changes to their side to face Letham who had a good win by three goals to nil.

Saturday, 27th, March, 1965 V RN Anchorage ( League- Away )
The league leaders meet the stylish Juveniles and they will have to be on their best form if they are to get through. They may have to be content with one point but I have a sneaking fancy that K Drummond’s boys will take both.
RN Anchorage 2 Letham 4
League leaders RN fell by the wayside to the attractive Juveniles. This game did not produce the expected fireworks. The wind caused a lot of bother at times and this may have affected the shooting power of both teams, but the RN forwards still failed badly inside the 18-yard line.
Wednesday, 31st, March, 1965 V St Johns YC ( League- Away)
Tonight’s meeting of St. Johns and the Juveniles on the North Inch should be a grand encounter. The Juveniles are in top form just now, while the Saints have been dropping needless points. They will have to do better tonight if they are to stop the South Inch lads.
Match cancelled- reason due to the fact we were playing Edina Hearts in a friendly at Broxburn Juniors ground. This was for the benefit of Bob Shankly, brother of the legendary Bill Shankly, who was now the new Hibernian manager and wanted to run his eye over Dusty Moir and John Binnie. He only signed John Binnie and had no further interest in Dusty Moir. Cannot say that decision endeared him to Letham. Edina was a nursery club for Hibs and they beat us 4-2. The Letham team’s age was on average younger than the Edinburgh outfit as they played in an under 21 league.
John’s father journeyed with us and had a good evening. John was to be farmed out before his call up to Easter Road.

In the derby between the Letham rivals at Huntingtower, the Juveniles pulled through by the odd goal. Reports say the Rovers should have had a point. This victory puts K Drummonds lads in second place.

Well played the ‘Lea. Despite having to field an under strength side they were really unlucky not to make the final.Letham Juveniles getting a penalty near the end. The replay should be a good tussle.

The highlight of the day is the meeting of Vale and the Juveniles, both on top of their form and the result could go either way.
Allanvale 7 Letham 0
At Blackford the home boys had a rather easy win over the Juveniles, who could not control the ball in the cross wind and whose defence gifted at least four simple goals. Allanvale have struck form at the right time scoring 22 goals with only 2 against them in their last three games.

Wednesday, 21st, April, 1965 V St Johns YC ( League-Away )
Saints after their crushing defeat of Coupar Angus meet the Juveniles who suffered a big defeat at Blackford, but this will be a grand game with Saints all out to show their win was no fluke. The Juveniles will want to let their supporters know they just had an off day, which of course can happen to any side. As the Juveniles must win this game to keep them in the running, I take them to just get through.
St Johns YC 1 Letham 6
The Juveniles went to the top of the league with an easy win over St Johns who were forced to field an under strength side .Moir made his first appearance for quite some time and while he was forceful in approach to goal, he did not look fully fit. Perhaps this outing will put him in better trim for today’s Semi-final.
Saturday, 24th, April, 1965 V Letham Rovers ( Semi-Final Bissett & Stewart Cup-Home )
The derby between the Letham sides is the attraction of the day. The Juveniles were lucky to get the league points at Huntingtower when they met recently with the home side hit by injuries. Rovers are still under strength due to injuries but hope to be able to field a team, which may bring off a surprise win. However I must go by form and take the Juveniles to make the final but it would be no surprise if a replay is required if the Rovers get the all important goal.

Coupar Angus sprang a real surprise against the attractive Juveniles to get through by the odd goal. The Juveniles forward line let them down badly by missing open goals.
This result blew us out of the water for winning the League Championship and we knew it. Apart from missing our main driving force in Dusty Moir, we were superior in all departments. We thought we had all the advantages, playing on our favourite big pitch-7, which gave us room to play our style of football. The misses were unbelievable. We now had to concentrate on winning a few cups.

Letham Juveniles again beat the ‘Lea by the odd goal and qualified for another final. In their previous meetings this season it has all ways been a grand tussle and this game was no exception. The ‘lea forwards have themselves to blame for losing this tie by missing some glorious openings.

Well played the young Letham Boys, who by the odd goal won their second trophy of the season. This was certainly deserved. The Coupar Boys failed to match them in any division and their attractive football had the visitors going round in circles. They did fall away for about ten minutes in the second half and the Coupar side got their second goal and then missed two glorious chances, which could have meant extra-time. Still this would have been an injustice to the Perth side. The cup was handed over to John Paterson, the winning captain by Mr Harold Rollo.
Saturday, 29th, May,1965 V Coupar Angus ( Final Dewar Shield-South Inch )
Letham 0 Coupar Angus 2
Coupar Angus had sweet revenge for their defeat on Tuesday and were good winners. The Juveniles again played good football but appeared at times to be tired. Still put the Coupar boys ahead just before half-time and it was he who laid on the vital pass for Stirton to place the issue beyond doubt.
The Coupar Angus boys played a lot better than on their previous visit and none better than keeper Middleton who made up for his previous lapses. The cup was handed over by Hon. President Alex Stewart, the St. Johnstone director, who complimented both sides and Willie Carle who retires this year.

A great Letham team fully in the new tradition of the Letham style of play. Cannot help feeling that we should have won the league but for silly dropped points to the likes of Caputh United. We were delighted that so many of our young players were to move on to higher grades, although there presence would be sadly missed. University also beckoned for others, which would seriously deplete the team for next season.
