Letham look good for both points
Team from- Corcoran, Todd, Dow, Mason, Whytock, White, Smeaton, Campbell, Orange,Johnston, Smith,Tainsh, Jenkins,Hamilton.
Letham finished easy winners over newcomers Earnside, who never gave up but found the jump to First Class Juveniles a little too much for them so early in the season.
Saturday,4th,September,1971 V Craigie ( League-Home )
The fixture on No.8 pitch should be worth seeing. The home side opened with a good win last week but they will find Craigie a different proposition. They could get both points but they will have a fight on their hands providing the visitors show the same form as last week.
Team from- Corcoran, Todd, Mason, Whyte, Smeaton, Dow, Campbell, Hamilton, O’Donnell, Whytock,
Orange, Smith, Jenkins, Beatson, Johnston,Tainsh.
Letham 6 Craigie 4
Letham 0-2 down at half-time made a great recovery to finish well on top
Saturday,11th, September,1971 V Huntingtower ( League-Away )
The ‘Tower boys face Letham in a home fixture and this should be a real test for both clubs with the result pretty close.
Team from- Corcoran, Todd, Mason, Beatson, Dow,White, Smeaton, Campbell, Tainsh, Hamilton, Whytock, Orange, O ‘Donnell, Smith, Johnstone, Jenkins.
Huntingtower 3 Letham 3

Team from- Corcoran, Todd, Beatson, Smeaton, Mason, Whytock, Dow, Hamilton, Whyte, Campbell, Johnston, Tainsh, Orange, O’Donnell, Smith, Jenkins.
Letham 3 St Johns 4
One of the best games I have seen for a long time was the encounter between Letham and St Johns. This fixture had real excitement for the full 90 minutes with the Saints just deserving their win by the odd goal in seven. Saints had a player booked in the first half.
Saturday,25th, September,1971 V Bridgeton United ( League-Home )
Letham have the high scoring United on the South Inch and after their surprise defeat last week they no doubt will be all out to make amends. The visitors after their big win over Coupar Angus, will be full of confidence, so today’s encounter should be worth seeing. Both defences have been losing far too many goals in the past few weeks and will be tested today as to their weakness. It should be a close result with ground advantage in favour of the Tangerines.

The draw at Huntingtower was a fair result The home side at one time were ahead 2-0 but the visitors fought back for a well-deserved replay. The return meeting this Saturday should be worth seeing.
Saturday,9th, October,1971 V Huntingtower ( 1st. Rd. replay Scottish Cup-Home )
Todays replay should be a duel worthy seeing. I would not care to name the winner, but it is almost bound to be a close result.

Saturday,23rd, October,1971 V Scone Thistle ( League-Home )
The match of the day looks to be the meeting of Letham and Scone Thistle. The home side returned to form last week but today they face a side on top of their form. The visitors have more experience in their ranks and I take them to maintain their winning run.

Letham 2 Stanley 3
The meeting of Letham and the undefeated Stanley drew one of the largest crowds to the South Inch for years. Stanley can think themselves a trifle fortunate in taking both points but the winning goal by Morton was worthy of winning a cup final, never mind a league match. At one time Letham had a two-goal advantage but bad finishing and numerous missed chances at the other end lost them the points.

Saturday,29th, January,1972 V Newburgh ( League-Away )

Newburgh Juveniles 4 Letham 3
The Fifers brought off the best result of the day when they defeated Letham by the odd goal in seven. This must be a serious blow to the Perth boys bid for league honours.
Saturday,5th, February,1972 V Crieff Sporta (2nd. Rd Brotherhood Cup-Home )

Saturday,26th, February,1972 V Huntingtower ( 2nd. Rd. Andy Lumsden Cup-Away )
Letham are visitors to Huntingtower and will no doubt prove their poor form last week was all wrong. The home side will take some stopping on their home ground and Letham will do well to force a replay.
Huntingtower 0 Letham 4
Huntingtower’s grand run came to an end on Saturday when their Letham visitors clearly showed their form of the previous week was all wrong. The city side completely outclassed the homesters who just could not make any impressions on the Tangerine’s defence. Reports say that the woodwork prevented the visitors from doubling their score.
Sunday,5th, March,1972 V Stanley ( 2nd. Rd. Gillie Cup-Home )
The outstanding tie of the week must be the meeting of the Tangerines and Stanley on No. 8 pitch tomorrow. When they last met the Stanley boys came off best but they were rather lucky-that the Letham defence made two bad blunders. This is not likely to happen tomorrow as Letham are playing with more confidence. I would not like to hazard an outright forecast of the result but I am sure the spectators will get their money’s worth no matter the score. Stanley are still undefeated in local circles but they are certainly on dangerous ground tomorrow. Will the Tangerines be the first to lower the colours?
Teams- Stripping accommodation for both teams and referee at bowling Pavilion, south Inch at 2.15p/m. Prior to this all Letham players to meet at clubrooms,142 South Street at 1.40p.m. prompt.
Team from- Corcoran, Todd, Dow, R Whytock, Whyte, Smeaton, Campbell, Tainsh, Orange, O’Donnell, Smith, Johnstone, Jenkins.
Letham 3 Stanley 1
Letham gave Stanley their first defeat of the season in local circles. This was a well-deserved win and only poor finishing plus a miss from the spot saved the visitors from a heavier defeat. The tackling of the visitors left a lot to be desired and at least two of their players were lucky to get off with a lecture from the referee.
Saturday,11th, March,1972 V Craigie ( League-Away)
Letham are visitors to No.10 pitch and after their great display last Sunday should prove too much for the home side.
Team from- Corcoran, Dow, Todd, R Whytock, Whyte, Smeaton, Campbell, Beatson, Orange, O’Donnell, Smith, Tainsh, Johnston, Jenkins.
Craigie 0 Letham 2
Letham completed the double against Craigie.

Interest--- Two former Letham players were married. Bob Muckersie who played in the first Letham side was married to Ann Robertson and Alan Forret who came through the ranks with Letham married Heather Robbins.
Saturday,18th, March,1972 V Stanley ( 2nd. Rd. Dewar Shield – Away )
The tie at Stanley is a wide-open affair. The home side’s last two defeats in cup-ties must be a sore blow to their officials and they will be all out to make sure there is no repeat. The Tangerines on form are a grand football side and with a win already over the home boys will be full of confidence to achieve the double. The game may well require a replay.
Team from- Corcoran, Todd, Dow, R Whytock, Whyte, Smeaton, Campbell, Orange, O’Donnell, Smith, Johnston, Tainsh, Jenkins, Mason
Stanley 3 Letham 1
Letham travelled to Stanley and found the home side in better form than in the last two weeks.
Saturday,25th, March,1972 V Stanley ( 2nd. Rd. McDougall Cup – Away )
Letham again travel to Stanley for their fourth meeting of the season and this looks the fixture of the day. The home boys have twice emerged the winners and will be looking for a hat-trick, but they wont find this easy. The visitors are a grand football side and could easily upset the home defence with their fast raiding on the wings. Ground advantage may tell in favour of the local side, but they know only too well that they have a stiff tussle on their hands.
Team from- Corcoran, Todd, Dow, Whytock, Whyte, Smeaton, Campbell, Beatson, Orange, O’Donnell, Smith, Tainsh, Johnston, and Jenkins.
Stanley 1 Letham 1 ( Match Abandoned )
The Tangerines were leading 0-1 at Stanley when the game was brought to a halt after half –an –hour. Referee Carle took ill and was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary SUFFERING THE EFFECTS OF WHAT IS SUSPECTED TO HAVE BEEN AN INSECT BITE.
Saturday,1st, April, 1972 V Bridgeton United ( Semi-Final Brotherhood Cup-Away )
The tie at Pitcairngreen is where anything can happen. United take some beating on their home ground and never give up while the Tangerines are a good all round footballing side and if striking the form they are capable of could give the home defence a real hot afternoon. Let’s hope for a good game and a just result.
Team from Corcoran, Dow, Todd, Smeaton, Campbell, Whytock, Whyte, Beatson, Tainsh, Orange, O’Donnell, Smith,Johnston,Jenkins

Saturday,15th,April,1972 V Roselea ( Semi-Final Andy Lumsden Cup- Away )
Today’s semi-final should be a grand tussle. Letham, at present are in good form and look the better side to reach the decider.
Team from- Corcoran, Dow,R Whytock, Whyte, Smeaton, Todd, Campbell, Orange, O’Donnell, Smith, Tainsh, Moir, Beatson, A Whytock.
Roselea 1 Letham 1
Was it a goal? This was the talking point after the finish of the tie on No.10 pitch, which ended all square after a scrappy ninety minutes. The incident, which led, which led to the controversy was a high lob in to the goal, which Roselea claimed went under the bar. The appeal for a goal was turned down. The home team failed to provide nets, if they had then the dispute would surely have been avoided.
Tuesday 18th, April,1972 V Stanley ( 2nd. Rd. McDougall Cup-Away )
The tie at Stanley will take some winning and I would not care to give a forecast. Ground advantage could see the local team get the verdict but the Tangerine’s grand football could cause the home defence a lot of bother and any blunders would be punished. Here is hoping for a good tie and the best of luck to both teams.
Stanley 1 Letham 4
Letham made the semi-final of the McDougall Cup when they beat Stanley with three goals to spare. They now meet Roselea on 6th, May,1972.
Saturday,22nd, April,1972 v Crieff Sporta ( League-Away )
Sporta have the Tangerines at Braidhaugh Park where I am afraid their defence will be in for a hot afternoon from the visitor’s forward line.
Team from- Peggie, Todd, R Whytock, Whyte, Smeaton, Campbell, Orange, Moir, Johnston, Tainsh, Ferguson, O’Donnell, A Whytock
Crieff Sporta 2 Letham 5
Letham travelled to Braidhaugh Park and brought off the double.
Interest- Police called to the Stanley V Newburgh game after a Newburgh player was kicked by a spectator.
Tuesday,25th,April,1972 v Scone Thistle ( Semi-Final Gillie Cup-Away )
Scone Thistle 5 Letham 0
At Scone, Thistle reached their third final when they defeated Letham by a nap hand. Reports say the result flattered the home side.
Saturday,29th, April,1972 V Roselea ( Semi-Final Replay- Andy Lumsden Cup-Home )
The semi-final replay on No. 8 pitch looks to be the fixture of the day. The Tangerines footballing skills should prove too much for the ‘Lea but in rival ties such as this one there is all ways an upset and perhaps this could happen today. However, I stand by Letham to make their second final.
Team from- Corcoran, Dow, R Whytock, Whyte, Smeaton, Todd, Campbell, Orange, Moir, O’Donnell, Smith, Tainsh, Johnston and A Whytock.
Letham 1 Roselea 1
The replay again ended all square with the home boys just getting on level terms shortly before time. Reports say the Tangerines were lucky to get another chance.
Thursday,4th, May,1972 V St Johns ( League-Away )
St Johns 0 Letham 6
Saturday,6th, May,1972 v Roselea ( Semi-Final McDougall Trophy-Home )
Team from- Corcoran, Dow, R Whytock, Whyte, Campbell, Smeaton, Todd, Orange, O’Donnell, Smith, Tainsh, Moir, Johnston, Ferguson, A Whytock.
Letham 0 Roselea 3
The only tie of the day on No. 2 pitch saw Roselea spring the surprise of the day when they defeated Letham rather easily. This result must be a blow to the Tangerines who had a player booked.

Team from Corcoran, Dow, Beatson, R Whytock, Whyte, Smeaton, Campbell, Todd, Orange, O’Donnell, Johnston, Smith, Tainsh, Moir.
Letham 2 Roselea 4
After 300 minutes of hard football the ‘Lea find themselves in their second final of the season. They defeated Letham after extra-time in their third meeting by two goals from the spot. The Letham boys were two ahead at half-time but Roselea hit back after the restart and shortly before the end of ninety minutes managed to get the vital goal to go in to extra time. In the end they fully deserved their win. They also had a player booked in extra time.
Tuesday,16th, May,1972 V Roselea ( League-Home )
Letham 2 Roselea 3
A Letham player has been reported regarding a remark passed to the referee after the Letham V Roselea fixture.
Friday,19th, May,1972 v Scone Thistle ( Final Brotherhood Cup-Simpson Park,7.15 KO.)
The final at Simpson Park will take some winning and I would not care to give a forecast. The Thistle are certainly the team in form at present and look capable of lifting their first trophy of the season but they will find the Tangerines a hot handful to overcome. The Thistle with players working out of town will make a last minute selection.
Scone Thistle 2 Letham 2
The Brotherhood Cup final at Simpson Park went in to extra time and still requires a replay. This was one of the finest and most sporting ties seen for a long time. Each of the four goals scored was worthy of winning the trophy. The result was just right and it would have been an injustice had either side lost. Yet, hesitation twice in the Tangerines defence in the last five minutes of extra time could have cost them dearly, the Thistle centre just failing to make the final touch. The replay will take place after the other finals have been decided, as the dates have been arranged. Thistle are in all the finals.Dewar the thistle captain suffered a severe head injury during the last ten minutes of extra time.

Thursday,1st, June,1972 v Newburgh Juveniles ( League- Home but played at Pitcairngreen)
Team from- Corcoran, Dow, Smeaton, Todd, Campbell, Mason, A Whytock, Whyte, O’Donnell, Tainsh, Orange, Johnston, Smith and Newman
Letham 1 Newburgh Juveniles 2
The Fifers bring off a grand double over the Tangerines. The visitors had a player booked while the home side had a player sent off in the second half.
Wednesday,7th,June,1972 V Scone Thistle ( Final replay-Brotherhood Cup-Huntingtower-KO 7.30)
Team from- Corcoran, Dow, Smeaton, Todd, Campbell, R Whytock, Mason, A Whytock, Whyte, O’Donnell, Tainsh, Orange, Johnston, Smith.
Letham 2 Scone Thistle 6
The Thistle picked up their second trophy of the season by defeating the Tangerines rather easily. This is a game Letham will want to forget; they were a goal down within five minutes of the kick off and shortly afterwards a defender added to the Thistle’s score when he hit a high lob over his keeper’s head. When Letham came more in to the game they found the Thistle defence in top form and barring their way to goal. The Scone boys went further ahead with another two goals and it looked all over as far as they were concerned, but they began to take things too easily and Letham took advantage to give the defence a hard time of it. It was only their due when they reduced the arrears shortly before half-time.
After the restart the Tangerines took up where they left off and only desperate clearances by the Thistle defence kept them at bay but they had better luck shortly afterwards when they once again reduced the leeway. The goal made Thistle sit up and they added to their score. The Tangerines were in luck when Thistle’s substitute missed two glaring chances within the space of five minutes, but after gaining confidence he did manage to find the net.
Letham had a player badly injured in a clash with the Thistle keeper and he was taken to hospital for examination. A good night for Thistle but their slackness at times could have cost them dearly.
Wednesday,14th,June,1972
The Letham player facing an ordering off offence has been granted a personal hearing tonight. He should report around 8.00p.m.

Saturday,17th, June,1972
The Letham player up on an ordering off offence also appeared in person and was fined £1.00. The report against a Letham player for a remark to the referee was dismissed.
Saturday,17th, June,1972 V Stanley ( League-Away )
Stanley require only one point from their meeting with Letham to win the League Championship
Stanley 2 Letham 2
At Stanley, the local side were awarded a disputed goal, which gave them a 100-1 chance to lift the championship. The visitors were most unlucky to only get a draw as their football ability was far ahead of the home side. Stanley had a player booked.
Tuesday,20th, June,1972 V Scone Thistle ( League-Away )
Scone Thistle 6 Letham 4
Thistle are still on winning form and scoring goals but their against column is also rising fast after Letham hit them for four. This puts them well behind Stanley who are now champions.
